Crowds set to flock to popular carnival
THE Battle of Agincourt is set to take centre stage as a village comes out for its annual carnival. Tomorrow’s annual Titchfield Carnival, on the same day as the 600th anniversary of the famous victory, will see a host of fun and entertainment with an Agincourt theme. The village is believed to have provided shelter to the King’s army ahead of crossing the water to France and on to the battle. The day starts at 1pm with a classic car show followed by a 107-strong cavalcade through Titchfield at 2.40pm. This acts as a precursor to the carnival parade at 3pm. A further illuminated procession, with entries including Bournemouth Carnival Band, will go through the village streets at 6.45pm before a beacon is lit at 8.30pm. As always the day has been organised by the Titchfield Bonfire Boys Society. There will also be music in the square from Romsey Old Cadets and a market in West Street and food court in Southampton Hill. Reflecting the battle theme there will be a chance for people to try out archery in Barry’s Meadow from midday to 3pm. Villagers will line the streets on the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt when Henry V’s English army defeated the French forces despite being vastly outnumbered. And Titchfield is said to have played a significant part in its preparations. The Great Barn at Titchfield lays claims to providing shelter for Henry V's army as they passed through to join ships that made the crossing of the English Channel ahead of the battle. Road closures will be in place on the day – Barry’s Meadow car park is closed all day, West Street from 9.30am to 9pm, High Street, The Square and South Street from 11.15am to 9pm, East Street from 11.15am to 8.45pm, Southampton Hill from 2.30pm to 4.35pm, Titchfield Hill from 6.15pm to 8pm, Mill Street from 2.3pm to 4.15pm and Coach Hill from 6.30pm to 8.15pm.
