Letter: Infrastructure is not fit-for-purpose

I write in response to the tragically ill-informed letter from Richard Wall of Marchwood in the Advertiser of 22nd March. He repeats the trope that cyclists are an unnecessary inconvenience to motorised road users, and should be corralled into second-class facilities by law if necessary. I speak as a motorist who also cycles.

Andy Lester: Warnings over chocolate eggs

This time last year we took a look at the chocolate craze and considered whether we should only buy Fair Trade chocolate. A year on and some things have changed and some things haven’t. Firstly the not so good news. Over the past year a large number of companies have started to create their own “nearly”-fairly-traded schemes in the hope of luring back customers who want to eat ethically. In fact there are now over 300 eco-food labels and it is confusing the public.

Christian Comment:‘Come together and pray for our nation’

Given this is the weekend we were originally due to leave the European Union it seems hard not to mention the word Brexit and the current uncertainty gripping our nation. Within my own wider family, there are passionately held and opposing views over the EU referendum and this is reflected up and down our nation, within communities, political parties, everywhere. It is hard to think of a similar issue that has so divided us, igniting passions and polarising the way people view one another. The u

Christian comment: 'Stories of death, disaster and Brexit'

EVERYONE listens to stories – stories of princesses, dragons, heroes, monsters, dangers and homecomings. Through these stories we come to understand who we are, where we belong and what the world is like. We learn that it can be wonderful and at the same time dangerous. We learn about faithfulness and courage, love and forgiveness.

READER LETTER: What Romsey really needs is another pool

How fast is fast? How slow is medium? In response to the letter published last week regarding lane swimming at Romsey Rapids (March 8) I wanted to say, I like three lanes, rather than four. A swimming pool is hardly comparable to the lanes on a motorway and, having a wider lane, so that a faster than expected swimmer can pass a slower swimmer, or get out of the way of someone trying to do a bit of back-stroke, is a good idea in my mind.
